TikTok Video Download Not Working? Here's How to Fix It
Troubleshoot common TikTok download errors — private videos, expired links, failed fetches, and more.
If your TikTok download isn’t working, you’re not alone. There are a handful of common reasons why a download fails, and most of them are easy to fix. Here’s a quick guide to diagnosing and resolving the most frequent issues.
Common Reasons a TikTok Download Fails
1. The video is set to private
TikTok creators can restrict who can view their videos. If a video is set to private or “Friends only,” it can’t be downloaded — the server returns an error when trying to fetch it.
Fix: There’s no workaround for private videos. You’ll need to find a public version of the content.
2. The link has expired or is malformed
TikTok share links (especially short vm.tiktok.com links) can sometimes expire. A broken or incomplete link will fail to load.
Fix: Go back to TikTok, tap the Share button on the video again, and tap Copy link. Then paste the fresh link into SnapTik.
3. The creator deleted the video
If the creator deleted the video after you copied the link, the content no longer exists on TikTok’s servers.
Fix: Nothing can be done — the video is gone.
4. The video is from a restricted region
Some TikTok content is geo-restricted and only visible in certain countries. If the video is unavailable in your region, the download may fail.
Fix: This is a TikTok restriction and cannot be bypassed through SnapTik.
5. Temporary server issue
Occasionally TikTok’s servers return errors or rate-limit requests. This is usually temporary.
Fix: Wait a minute and try again. If the problem persists for multiple videos, check if TikTok itself is having issues.
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
- Copy a fresh link — don’t reuse old links; always copy a new one from the TikTok app.
- Try a different browser — sometimes browser extensions or settings block download requests.
- Disable VPN — a VPN can interfere with TikTok’s CDN and cause failed requests.
- Check if the video is public — open the TikTok link in an incognito window to confirm it loads without logging in.
- Retry after a short wait — if none of the above work, wait a few minutes and try again.
Still Not Working?
If you’ve tried all of the above and the download still fails, the video is likely restricted or unavailable. Not every TikTok video can be downloaded — SnapTik can only access what TikTok’s servers make available.
